About the Artist

Hi! I’m Alison, and I’m a self-taught artist from Boston, Massachusetts.

I started making art when I was 11 years old. At the time, I drew using graphite and colored pencils to create portraits and realistic eyes. I kept this style up for several years before taking an art hiatus during college.

After graduating in 2025 and facing a difficult job market, I wanted to feel productive and potentially earn some money, so I pushed myself to start creating again. I dug up my old, inexpensive paint supplies from my childhood and got to work.

Through painting, I’ve been able to access a creative side of myself that I didn’t know I had. Coming from an artistic background rooted in realism, I struggled to find my personal style. I was afraid of stepping away from what I knew: carefully transferring exactly what I saw in a reference onto paper. I felt trapped in that box, especially under the self-instilled pressure to be technically “good” in order to feel that my work had any value.

Over time, I realized that the art that moves me most isn’t defined by technical skill. It’s about color, composition, and emotion. It’s about how a piece makes me feel.

Coming to this realization led me to create art that elicits something in me, and hopefully allows others to feel something too, although I’m still working toward that goal.

Painting has taught me to embrace the imperfection that comes with the process of creating. I’m inspired by the small, everyday moments that bring me joy: cozy bedrooms, cups of coffee, familiar spaces, and interesting colors. I also love to travel and take photographs, and sometimes I turn those images into paintings.

I hope you enjoy my work!
